CAGEAD Distributes 350 Menstrual Hygiene Management Kits in Belo, Njinikom, and Fundung

In a landmark initiative aimed at improving menstrual health, 350 menstrual hygiene management kits were distributed to adolescent girls and young women in the communities of Belo, Njinikom, and Fundung. This endeavor, spearheaded by CAGEAD and AWDF, underscores the critical importance of menstrual hygiene education and resources in breaking down barriers faced by young women in these communities.

The beneficiaries, made up of a diverse group of young women including the Muslim community and persons living with disabilities, were sensitized on the biology of menstruation and practical tips for menstrual hygiene management.  Facilitators empowered the girls with knowledge, enabling them to approach their menstrual health with confidence and dignity.

One of the participants, Aisha Faoziatou Garba, a 14-year-old from the local Muslim community, expressed her gratitude: "This kit will not only help me during my periods, but the knowledge I gained today will help me and my friends understand our bodies better. It’s good to know that we’re not alone in this.”

The kits included essential hygiene products such as sanitary pads, soap, Pants, omo, menstrual cycle circles and menstrual calendars. Each kit was designed to support young women for several cycles, providing them with both the tools and knowledge needed to navigate menstruation safely.

The day ended in an atmosphere empowerment and hope, with beneficiaries appreciating CAGEAD and AWDF, while urging them to do more by penetrating other communities in the Division that have never had access to the kits as well as knowledge on menstruation.
