Entertainment meets Education: CAGEAD blends fun with learning at SRHR Picnic in Boyo

CAGEAD adopts an innovative and engaging approach to raising awareness about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through its SRHR Picnic in Boyo division. The event creatively blended entertainment with impactful learning. Beyond the social gathering and peer bonding, the day stood out for its innovative use of games, poetry, and interactive sessions to pass across essential messages on SRHR.

One of the highlights of the day was the SRHR Word Puzzle, a fun but educational game that required participants to find SRH-related words hidden in a grid. Terms like menstruation, puberty, STIs, consent, teenage pregnancy, pads, tampons were discussed as the girls solved the puzzle, helping them to grasp not just the meanings but the significance of these terms in their daily lives. The game turned words that sounded abstract into concrete lessons and caused discussion among peers.

Another standout activity was the Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) game. Designed to show real-life choices and challenges young girls face during menstruation, the game taught  participants what to do and what to avoid, through a series of instructions. Landing on a good hygiene practice would advance a player, while misconceptions or unhealthy behaviors would pull them back. The game reinforced positive habits in a simple and engaging way, making the learning process both fun and memorable.

The day also consisted of educative poems recited by the participants. These spoken word pieces addressed important topics such as body autonomy, healthy relationships, peer pressure, and teenage pregnancy. The poems gave the girls a platform to express their feelings and experiences, while also learning from each other in a safe and supportive environment.

The playful and relaxed atmosphere allowed the girls to connect not only with the content but also with each other. Sitting on mats under the open sky, sharing snacks, and laughing over games helped to break down barriers and build trust. Through this initiative, CAGEAD succeeded in demystifying critical SRHR topics and making them more accessible to young girls. The picnic demonstrated that education can also be relaxed and fun and not always intimidating
