Mbengwi Community Unites for Peace and Cleanliness
In a demonstration of communal solidarity, over 200 residents of Mbengwi, both women and men assembled to participate in an inspiring environmental cleanup drive organized by ALVF (Association for the Fight Against Violence Towards Women), in collaboration with partners COWOPNET (Community Women’s Peace Network), with CAGEAD (Center for Advocacy in Gender Equality and Action for Development) leading the activity. This project, titled "Community-Led Actions for Enhancing Grassroots Women’s Participation in Peacebuilding through Awareness on UNSCR1325," aimed to foster harmony and sanitation within the town. The event saw locals unite enthusiastically to sweep, tidy, and beautify the school, hospital and surrounding areas.
Equipped with wheelbarrows, machetes, hoes, shovels, buckets, boots, soap, and gloves, supplied by ALVF via COWOPNET, the women toiled diligently to revamp their school grounds and hospital into pristine, secure environments. As they laboured, representatives from CAGEAD reminded participants of the vital importance of peace and emphasized the urgent need to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) within their communities.
The tangible impact of this cleanup effort was unmistakable. Community members expressed heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the project’s positive influence. The women involved expressed their delight. Mrs. Forba Grace, President of the Efforti Peace Club, remarked, “With schools set to reopen soon, cleaning the school grounds is particularly timely. Additionally, maintaining the hospital’s cleanliness is crucial for safeguarding our health.” She took a moment to thank COWOPNET and CAGEAD for orchestrating such a commendable initiative.
The success of this campaign underscores the profound power of grassroots-led efforts and collaborative partnerships in advancing peace and community development. As the residents of Mbengwi envision a cleaner, and more harmonious future, the endeavors of COWOPNET and CAGEAD stand as shining examples of what can be achieved when communities unite around a shared vision for progress.
This collective movement not only beautifies the environment but also reinforces the bonds of unity and mutual responsibility, paving the way for a more peaceful, resilient, and thriving society.
