Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Gender Based Violence
At CAGEAD, our mission is to drive impactful change by addressing critical issues affecting adolescent girls and young women. Our work is organized into three key areas of intervention: Championing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and Addressing Menstrual Hygiene Management. Each focus area is designed to tackle pressing challenges, provide essential support, and create opportunities for growth and safety in the midst of adversity.
Championing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
This area of intervention focuses on promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for adolescent girls and young women. CAGEAD empowers these individuals with crucial knowledge about their sexuality and rights to prevent sexual abuse, unplanned pregnancies, and diseases. Our initiatives include establishing Gender and Human Rights clubs in schools, offering educational workshops, and providing support services to ensure that young women can make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
This area addresses the urgent issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), which has surged amid the socio-political crises in Cameroon’s NW and SW regions. CAGEAD works to educate women, girls, boys, and men on GBV, while also strengthening community structures to fight against violence. Our comprehensive approach includes capacity-building workshops, psychosocial support, counseling for survivors, creating referral pathways, and media sensitization through GBV awareness skits. We also offer dignity kits and start-up support to survivors and vulnerable women and girls.
Addressing Menstrual Hygiene Management
This area focuses on improving menstrual hygiene for vulnerable girls and women, particularly in crisis situations. Many face challenges managing their menstruation safely and with dignity. CAGEAD addresses these challenges by doing a number of interventions
- Improving knowledge on menstruation and mentsrual Hygiene management.
- Creating and running MHM clubs in schools in communities.
- Distributing reusable pads and eco-friendly menstrual products, ensuring that adolescent girls and young women can manage their periods without fear, shame, or discomfort, thereby enhancing their overall well-being and reducing their vulnerability.
Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women
As the Country Lead for the HER Voice Fund, CAGEAD is committed to amplifying the voices of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW). We work to increase their meaningful participation in Global Fund initiatives and national policy processes. By driving policy changes and promoting active engagement, we aim to improve the health and well-being of AGYW, ensuring their needs and perspectives are effectively represented and addressed.
